This is Now a DoFollow Blog
There are Four Reasons for the change
First off, you might ask what does DoFollow mean?
Normally, when someone comments on a blog, the link the person receives backlink to their site, but it is marked a “NoFollow,” which Google does not count. This was done to help limit the amount of spam people leave on websites. The problem with this is it takes away a lot of incentive for readers to leave feedback since they feel they do not get anything out of it.
Why I Made The Change to DoFollow:
1. It Helps Your Readers
Blogging is all about building friendships with fellow bloggers and helping one another. It’s like a big community and we try to share our success with others who have just started. One important way to help those who are just getting started, is by giving them a backlink to their site. I think it is really important to reward those who come to your blog and leave a meaningful comment about your post. It’s a way of saying “Thanks, I really appreciate the fact you read my post.”
2. It Gives An Incentive
A lot of times, readers will read my entire post and then move on to another blog. I think having a DoFollow blog gives readers an incentive for taking the time to leave a comment. It makes them feel like there is a reason to stop and think about it for a few minutes. I know I personally stop and read more posts when I see that a blog is DoFollow.
3. NoFollow Isn’t Fair
I understand that the NoFollow attribute was originally designed to stop spammers from commenting on every blog. This still happens regardless of the tag. I feel that it isn’t fair to those who are not spamming your site. The people that actually read it and have something meaningful to leave behind are negatively affected. Therefore, I think readers should be rewarded with the DoFollow link, and spammers will not be tolerated.
4. I Love To Receive Feedback
When I first start blogging, it was really hard to keep the motivation. Once in a great while I would receive a comment which gave me a little drive to keep going. I think it is very important to receive comments because it reminds you that people really do read your posts and find them interesting. I feel that moving over to a DoFollow blog will help me receive more feedback over time, which never hurts.
Do You Follow?
I would love to hear some feedback from other bloggers about your experience with the DoFollow comments. Did you get a lot more spam? Lower PageRank? Or did it help with traffic and comments?
Feel free to share my site with others looking to get a few backlinks here and there, I would really appreciate it!

1. January 2009 at 1:09 pm :
I like the DoFollow for all the reasons you mentioned. Now how can that be enabled on Google blog comments?
1. January 2009 at 8:01 pm :
Woohoo, congrats on the switch!
2. January 2009 at 2:21 pm :
Happy New Year. :)
I think DoFollow is a great idea - but you’ll need to work harder to keep on top of comment-spam and other off-topic comments.
3. January 2009 at 3:51 am :
I’m getting more interaction now from fellow bloggers, thanks to commentluv and keywordluv. I’m on the alert for spammers especially blackhatters. The simple captcha plug in took care of that.
3. January 2009 at 3:28 pm :
dofollow is ok.
but i enable it from case to case
greetings Wissens Blog

A meaningful comment is a meaningful comment. Follow or not, the way to stop spammers is to get admin to moderate each post. I am refering to those who favour nofollow.
6. January 2009 at 2:50 am :
Dear IncomeTeam, you convinced me to go DoFollow too…
I can officially announce that http://www.icantinternet.org is now DoFollow ;-)
Thanks for the tip!
7. January 2009 at 2:29 pm :
I’ve never regretted making mine a dofollow blog - I’ve experienced all the benefits you mentioned, and not significantly more spam. In any case Aksimet takes care of most of it automatically.
I’ve added you to my Dofollow Search Tool.
8. January 2009 at 9:31 am :
Great blog and itis interesting that you have opened up the follow linking - this post was done in December - would be interested to see how your comment posting levels increase as a result, cheers, Russell
8. January 2009 at 3:31 pm :
At least 3 fold.
I have had 16 since I made it DoFollow 1 week ago.
The 16 prior took 3 weeks. (good post in there though)
The 16 before that took 2 months.

You are 100% correct about the fact that no-follow tags have zero impact on comment spam. I have a couple of blogs that just get hammered with comment spam and they’ve been no-follow blogs from day 1.
Make sure and report back as to whether this decision negatively impacts your page rank or your comment spam volume.
12. January 2009 at 4:29 am :

12. January 2009 at 5:12 am :

2. March 2009 at 4:45 am :
the relationship between bloggers will be more tight. to help each other to achieve common goals: traffic!
25. March 2009 at 7:55 pm :
I see alot of sites with keyword luv or comment luv with no follow. I think they use the tags to get more traffic to site and comments but never help the people who comment out. If you use keyword luv to let people use keywords for link why in the world make it a usless no follow link. You know people look for keyword luv sites for link back. Nice post i agree that you should allow follow links if you use keywword luv or comment luv.
20. April 2009 at 10:50 pm :
yep I feel the same way, which is why I turned my PR5 site into DoFollow and added Keyword Luv as well
8. May 2009 at 4:39 pm :
Everyone seems to be talking about DoFollow now a days and I simply don’t get it. I feel so out of it!
17. May 2009 at 1:09 pm :
KeywordLuv is such a great idea. People get comments on their blogs + people get links to thir site = everyone is happy :)
22. May 2009 at 4:36 am :
Do Follow blog?? how do I change to do follow atribute on my blog.
Does installing keyword luv plugin made your blog as a do follow blog.
hope you feedback my answer.
28. May 2009 at 2:21 am :
Thanks for sharing - having tried and implemented them,I think both commentluv and keywordluv are great for bloggers and commenters - Its also a great way to improve your brand too. The nofollow attribute still serves as an anchor to your site with no Search benefits.
8. July 2009 at 11:25 am :
I think this is a great move. It’ll encourage more comments on your articles as well as foster community interaction. Do you find that you get more spam, or does Askimet take care of the majority?
31. July 2009 at 6:36 am :
Thanks for the follow :) Keep up the good work…
5. August 2009 at 6:23 pm :
KeywordLuv is absolutely a great plugin. I believe more Bloggers should use it. I see you using it.
31. August 2009 at 2:11 pm :
I know Nofollow isn’t fair with everyone since it breaks the bondage b/w a reader and a blogger (in internet terms where we link everything) but there are huge successful blogs which may have to forcibly make it a nofollow because if the blog is receiving too much traffic and too popular, chances are high that they’ll receive much more spam than other blogs and this thing forces them to implement a nofollow tag. And those who leave constructive comments onto the blog should be awarded with a dofollow link like you do which is very nice but I understand the efforts you would put in stopping spam.
2. September 2009 at 7:08 am :
I find keyword luv is a very useful plugin to find the traffic. It will help every bloger to make some money from it. Thanks for this article. It is a well written one.
3. September 2009 at 7:14 pm :
I am big fan of DoFollow but it’s sad that we have to face comment spammers every day.I recommend WP-Spam Free plugin is doing a hell of a job!
4. September 2009 at 12:51 am :
Hi…
Nice that you are using keywordluv on the site now. Keywordluv is an amazing plugin from wordpress. It allows use of keywords in the names field. It is just a nice way to reward readers who spend their precious time on your blog. Also it increases traffic to your website.
12. October 2009 at 10:19 am :
I agree with your points, good move.
24. December 2009 at 2:22 pm :
Well yes I agree that thsi was a fight against spammers, but nofollow tag destroyed each and every comment, so it is not fair. Good that you are one of really rear webmaster who sticks with do-follow.
28. December 2009 at 6:01 am :
I found your blog on google and read a few of your other posts. Keep up the good work. Look forward to reading more from you in the future.
8. January 2010 at 3:01 am :

20. January 2010 at 6:17 am :

Anyway, more power to you and your site. Keep up the good work and don’t worry. I’ll be a constant follower to your blog. God bless!
23. February 2010 at 12:45 pm :
I’m glad to see that you have adopted this stance. I know that you run the risk of spammers, and you will see some. However, the fact is that as part of an initial link-building campaign, having the ability to find a few do-follow blogs is a good way for those of us starting out to be able to find related articles and topics and be able to build up a few links to get some traction, so THANK YOU!
18. March 2010 at 4:12 am :
I also love to receive a valuable feedback for my post.
19. March 2010 at 5:44 am :
It makes them feel like there is a reason to stop and think about it for a few minutes.

It allows use of keywords in the names field. It is just a nice way to reward readers who spend their precious time on your blog.
29. March 2010 at 5:01 am :
Dofollow is an excellent idea. To fight spammers, i guess we need a plugin that evaluates comment relevance to the post as score so it can auto do-follow if it is relevant.Currently, i’m thinking of having a check box to set follow or nofollow comment links.
4. May 2010 at 6:52 am :
I agree totally with your post! Well done and I hope to see more. Thanks
15. May 2010 at 4:36 am :
As you told reasons but one of your point from my point of view really good as you “feel that it isn’t fair to those who are not spamming your site. The people that actually read it and have something meaningful to leave behind are negatively affected. Therefore, I think readers should be rewarded with the DoFollow link, and spammers will not be tolerated”.
22. May 2010 at 1:22 am :

4. August 2010 at 10:07 am :
it is good to have a dofollow blog since you will get more comment from visitors but you need to fight with spam comments.
