Balance firmness and fun in your organization

When you become good leader, you will learn how to balance firmness and fun in your organization. You need to be able to tell people to go look up info themselves if is readily available to them. You need to build accountability in your group, not hand-hold for the simple matters. You also must have some fun, contests, promotions….having some fun can be a good motivator.

If you are planning on being a leader or achieving greatness, be prepared to have your butt kicked a little bit. There will always be some people that don’t want you to succeed, they like to play “king of the hill’ and want the attention themselves, or ‘anchors aweigh’ where they try to reach up and pull you down.

Don’t get down about this. It happens. Personally, if someone does well, that is great.
What can I learn from them, and share to help out others.

Use various form of communication, an occasional phone call to build a relationship is far more effective than just e-mailing all the time. Send something by snailmail, when you can hold something in your hand, you are more likely to remember it. How about Skype or instant messaging?
Mix it up, any one form of media can become boring, thus less effective.
