Greenshot is a revolutionary screenshot tool optimized for productivity.

Greenshot is a screenshot utility that allows to capture a region of the screen, a window or the entire screen.
One thing I do often is use it to capture the same part of the screen multiple times. This gives you pictures that are all the exact same size for use in lists, etc. I have used it to show commissions for several months without having to play with the images to get them to show nicely together.
Once a screenshot is taken it can be opened in an internal image editor, copied to the clipboard, saved to a folder directly or with a dialog, or sent to the printer. The program allows the choose the format that the images will be saved in (JPG, BMP, PNG or GIF) and adjust the quality.
How often do you really want a “full” screenshot anyway. This till replaces the Print Screen key, and when pressed, lets you pick what you want captured.
To try this Open Source software out, just:
- Just hit “Print Screen” (Prt Sc) button to get started.
- Select the region that you want to take a screenshot.
- Save the image or add text, arrow, circle or rectangle etc to the screenshot.

For Linux you may also want to consider K-Snapshot which offers the same; and it’s seamlessly integrated into the operating system.

I totally agree with you that its the best. Perfect tool for my task- cropping text from .pdf files into .ppt. Quick download, no bloatware. Pastes easily in MS Powerpoint.

I am already using this frequently and very happy with it. Sure beats having to take a snapshot of the page then importing with a graphic program. The editing portion of this is a bonus.

It allows to add lines, arrows and text boxes to the image. This feature is just awesome but the problem is that it can’t edit the lines, arrows or text boxes once you put them on the image. Would also be nice to have the ability to reverse the colors for when you capture images with dark backgrounds.

This is a great utility that needs a simple modification. It now writes it’s settings to the user folder, making it ‘not quite portable.’ Please consider giving the user the choice of where to store settings, so it may be completely run from a USB stick and not write ANY settings to the hard drive.

This sounds like a great program. I know I almost never need to do a screen capture of the entire screen. It is almost always just a particular portion.

Greenshot, a screen capturing tool for the Windows operating system, does not only offer to take a screenshot of the desktop but also of a selected window or custom rectangle. The results can be send to the default image editor, saved as a jpg file to the computer, printed on a connected printer or added to the clipboard. One of the interesting aspects of Greenshot is that several of the processing ways can be selected. A user could copy the screenshot to the clipboard, save it in a selected image format and print it at the same time.
