GVO Conference Launch Delayed - Still on Generator power after 29 hours

Update from Joel Therien concerning the power issues causing the launch delay:

Hi Everyone,

We are going on 29 hours on Generator now, and we still have no ETA on when power will be restored. Below is a direct link of the outages here in San Antonio
http://www.cpsenergy.com/CPSEnergyOutageMap.html

As I am writing this there is still 741 Outages affecting 10 343 people and well we are one of them. I have been calling every hour for updates.

Please watch the video as it explains why I do not want to chance the launch on one power source only.

My apologies :-(

Joel Therien

I am set to be notified as soon as we have a green light.  Stay tuned.

  1. Update from Joel Therien:

It has now been 45 hours on generator, I never thought
this would happen in today’s day and age. Especially
when the damage to power lines was minimal compared to
    a hurricane.

http://www.cpsenergy.com is the company that has their monopoly
on energy here in San Antonio. There is a secondary company
but they do not provide service to our area. They are
    http://www.gvec.org

Here is the train of events that occurred

Tuesday September 7th approx 8am power fails.

Approximately 11am tech arrives, sees that our power
lines to our building our melted and burnt from a small fire

Tech tells us he is not equipped and to gas up our generator
as we can not get a line crew out for 4 to 8 hours..

We call CPS energy every 2 hours for updates..

Finally 25 hours later on September 8th at 12pm second
crew shows up. They go WOW, your lines are burnt
we do not have the equipment here to replace them.

We will send out a line crew in 2 hours to get the lines replaced..

Another 13 hours goes by.. now it is September 9th 1am
crew comes… same thing, WOW your lines are burnt we are
not equipped to replace this, I will have a line crew out
    in 1 hour!!

It is now 5am on September 9th, we are about 45 hours now
    on generator with no repair.

I have never seen such gross mis communication with any company
before… worthy of a local news story on how not to treat people.

Generator power is a temporary means, it has fluctuations in
frequency and voltages which is wreaking havoc on our UPS
    batteries..

    Oh..

Yes I have been calling every 2 hours since this started to dispatch
repeating myself again and again, yet the same communication.

I will be driving to CPS Energy when their doors open this am
to see if I can find someone with their head on strait..

Sorry if this sounds negative, I am tired and frustrated to say the
least. Never would I ever thought you would see this in the modern
    world!!

Is it because of a monopoly? who knows?

I just wanted to keep open communication with everyone!

    –Joel Therien

  2. the launching re-scheduling surely is organized by this time..the generator problems seem minimal but still needs attention of course.

  3. nice post,Thanks for sharing information with us.

  4. That is a shame that power outages delayed the launch of GVO Conference. That must be quite discouraging. Then again, what can you really do about it other than reschedule? I guess it’s better than trying to run the conference with power issues.

  5. Thank you for great article. Where else could anyone get that kind of information in such a perfect way of writing? I have a presentation next week, and I am on the look for such information.
